Chats
Ever tried to install a Java chat server at some ISP offering hosting services and was refused? It's natural, ISPs almost never allow clients to run daemons on their servers (unless they rent a dedicated box). For people that need to chat enable a web site and want to avoid the annoying "full-refresh HTML only" solution, we have goods news. InterAKT developed a "server - free" chat server. Using advanced PHP/MySQL programming, we've developed a chat client that uses as server the web server/coupled with PHP and MySQL. So, no need for dedicated box or chat server on the ISP hardware. The client is a Java 1.1 client, tested on the 3 latest browser generations, and the traffic generated on the server is much smaller, only new messages being sent to the chatter, not the last couple of dozens as in the standard full refresh implementation.
